My 2010 Influential list of bloggers

Here are my ten influential blog nominees for 2010 in random order

1.  SPIT (Silly People's Improv Theater) - http://www.spithappens.info - It's sad that their home (Mag:net High Street) met its demise recently, but I believe that we will see them in a weekly haunt sometime soon.

(Update: The group has their own blog as well)

2. The NomNom Club - http://nomnomclub.com/ - Last year's winner Jonel of Let's Go Sago spins off his food blogging into a blog of its own.

3. 100Araw - http://100araw.com/ - Being an election year, it is important that an election blog is nominated for this year.

4. Manila Concert Scene - http://manilaconcertscene.blogspot.com/ - It is important to know that there is someone covering the music scene a little bit.

5. The Art of Changemaking - http://artofchangemaking.com - This blog by Nina Terol-Zialcita is about the making a change, a change for the better and how we can get that done.

6. When in Manila - http://www.wheninmanila.com/ - Vince Golangco has made the successful transition from being in the new media towards the mainstream media with his current stint as a DJ for Mellow 94.7. But we all know him more as the man behind this travel and lifestyle blog.

7. Blogwatch - http://blogwatch.ph/ - Bloggers covering the news the way the mainstream media does it.

8. Underdog Boxing - http://underdogboxing.wordpress.com - Carlo Pamintuan is a boxing fanatic. It is important that a new breed of sports bloggers emerge to become the new age reporters and observers of the sports scene.

9. Go Ateneo - http://www.goateneo.com/ - For anything Ateneo sports, this is the place to go to.

10. Nonoy For President - http://nonoyforpresident.blogspot.com/ - Nothing like partisan sports blogging armed with a sense of seriousness and humor. Named after former Finals MVP and current PBA Draft applicant Nonoy Baclao as a form of tribute to his constant pwnage of whoever crossed his path.

If you are interested in compiling your own list, you can head on to this site on how to do it and do it right.

Iron Man 2 - A simple Review

First of all, I want to thank Joshua Yu for the passes (and to Fjordz for accompanying me even if he just watched it a few minutes earlier with other bloggers as part of an LG event in the Greenbelt 3 MyCinema).

So, what did I think of the movie? First, I thought that the first Iron Man film was awesome, so expectations for the 2nd film were a bit high.

As what a good person stated on his Facebook, Sequels rarely exceed the old version. Iron Man, still for me, has a bigger impact on me than this one. However, that does not take away the fact that it is still an awesome movie.

So, what did I like in the movie? For starters, Robert Downey, Jr. fits the role of Tony Stark like a glove like Tony to his suit. He really has that knack. I just this his bad boy image back in the day (he did go to rehab, you know). Don Cheadle was a suitable replacement for Terence Howard. It was also nice to see Mickey Rourke being a natural as Ivan Vanko (a.k.a. Whiplash). The idea of him having to speak Russian and that pet bird was his idea. And of course, this girl:

Of course, the little nuggets within the movie are also its stars. Comic fans / geeks / nerds would have a field day looking for Easter Eggs, as what director Jon Favreau once said. The biggest Easter Egg is the one you have to finish the credits in order to see.

There was that sentiment that a lack of oomph was present during the different sequences. But then again, it must be the inevitable comparison to the first film. Anyhow, I would rather consider this as a continuation to the Marvel Storyline that is taking place.

Still, you can take the movie as what it is worth, a good thrill ride with lots of good stuff for everyone.

Alpha protein proven to improve infant’s long-term health

To all moms, this article may be on interest to you.

Cases of long-term health problems like obesity, cardiovascular ailments, and insulin resistance have been increasing year after year. These have prompted medical professionals to look beyond medical treatments and seek effective preventive measures. Infant nutrition, particularly protein intake during the early stages of infancy, has been identified in strengthening or weakening a person’s long-term health.

Controlled random examinations in preterm and term infants cited by the research paper, “Early origins of cardiovascular disease. Is there a unifying hypothesis?” by Lucas Singhal, proved that “early nutrition has a major impact on long-term health including cognitive function, bone health, and risk factors for cardiovascular disease.”

Dr. Atul Singhal, a professor of Pediatric Nutrition and deputy director of the University College London, explained in a forum that the long-term growth and development of infants depended not just on the quantity of nourishment they receive but on the quality as well. He also heads the Clinical Trials and Cardiovascular Nutrition group at the MRC Childhood Nutrition Research Centre’s Institute of Child Health at University College London, which researched on “The Importance of Protein for Long-term Health.”

Although a high protein intake may improve and accelerate young infants’ growth, parents should focus on the quality of protein they feed their babies. “While a higher protein intake has short-term advantages for growth, adverse programming by high protein intake and faster growth suggest that the optimum nutrition of infants is more complex than simply ‘more is better,’” said Dr. Singhal.

Alpha protein or á-lactalbumin is beneficial to the overall health of infants.   Unlike other whey-based proteins, alpha protein is easily digested by babies and lessens the possibility of vomiting, spitting up, or food intolerance of babies. This important protein helps improve the kidney function of babies and the absorption of essential minerals like zinc.

Alpha protein also enhances babies’ sleep patterns and appetites. It contains helpful amino acids with tryptophan which also enhance the disposition or mood of children. Children who are given alpha protein are healthier and stand to have more enduring health benefits.

To find out more about alpha protein and what in can do for your baby, ask your trusted pediatrician.

FroYo for a good cause

I love the taste of frozen yogurt. Now recently, the people of White Hat brought the cosplaying duo that is the Gosiengfiao siblings (Alodia and Almira) and members of the Ateneo Blue Eagles basketball team. They even invaded the confines of Magic 89.9. This time, the crew are bringing in a regal figure...

Have a Kruffin, why don't cha?

We all know Krispy Kreme for its sweet donuts. Its Mini series is so in demand that supplies run out every time I go there. Now, they have a new delectable treat to soothe your palate.

Currently available only at the Ayala Ave and Greenhills branches, the Kruffins are muffins done Krispy Kreme style with fruits, nuts and chocolate. On the other hand, the Pull-Aparts are hand-balled rolls of dough, that was, you guessed it, pulled apart and shaped into a doughnut with additional treats (like Sausage and Cheese or Cinnamon).

It surely tastes good with coffee. And you can get either Baked Creation with a Signature Coffee for 99 pesos.

So if you are in the Ayala / Greenhills area, check it out now.

The SM City Sta. Mesa Wi-Fi Session

Recently, I had the opportunity of checking out the food court of SM City Sta. Mesa (the mall formerly known as SM Centerpoint) as part of the wi-fi testing on the different SM Malls across the region.

As par for the course, the bloggers were treated to the sumptuous treats c/o of the different tenants of the food court. Lechon, sisig, and lugaw were among the different delicacies made available.

Check out this site for pictures of the testing.

ASUS raising standards of Netbook Audio

As the world turns, and as man becomes more mobile, netbook technology has to be at par with what one can get at home. That includes audio technology, especially now that people watch things online nowadays.

At the CeBIT exhibition located in Hannover, Germany, ASUS displayed its new SonicMaster technology, which aims to take the new level of netbook audio.

SonicMaster was a result of a collaboration between ASUS and Bang & Olufsen ICEpower® will be debuting on the ASUS N Series, with appropriate upgrades on the NX Series of notebooks. The technology uses oversized resonance chambers and specially-placed speakers that eliminate vibration and distortion, while the software engine boosts finesse, ensuring consumers hear amazing vocals and surround elements as though in a live environment.
